Synopsis

After the events of «Batman» (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, plays a role to seize the reins of the criminal world in Gotham. From melting makeup to shooting in sub-zero temperatures, Colin Farrell and Christine Milioti talk about how they got into the role while filming The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard for his version of the Penguin to smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but to no avail. However, in his own series, the character is depicted as a casual smoker who prefers cigars.

Absolutely accurately conveyed the tone and atmosphere

Where to start with Farrell

There is a similarity with a soprano, especially in tone. There are a lot of dark things going on in this first episode, but there are comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t undermine it. Amazing is the right word. I love seeing talented star actors fully commit to roles like this, and the make-up/CGI or whatever they’ve done physically turning him into a penguin not only passes the eye test, but looks incredibly realistic.

And Farrell as an actor is completely immersed in this role

There is always a risk that if the makeup is not good enough or done a little poorly, it can completely distract attention. In «Penguin», it raises his game and the overall quality of the show, because it’s a damn good job. Maybe I’m a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors before this series, but I think this will bring him the praise he deserves. I never immediately tune in to new series, because I like to watch episodes.
